Fierte Sudbury Pride is proud to stand behind people living with, at risk or affected by HIV / AIDS in the greater Sudbury area. We have reviewed the current science on transmission carefully and have signed on to the international U=U campaign which allows us to say the following things with certainty:

  • We agree with the scientific consensus statement “Risk of sexual transmission of HIV from a person living with HIV who has an undetectable viral load” which can be found here.

  • We agree that a person living with HIV who is on ART (HIV medications) and has sustained an undetectable viral load for at least 6 months can not transmit HIV to their sexual partners.

  • We agree that the health and prevention benefits of viral suppression are platforms to underscore the importance to universal access to treatment and care for all people living with HIV worldwide

  • We agree that treatment is a personal choice, that treatment is first and foremost for personal health, that there are unjust barriers to accessing treatment, that not all people living with HIV will achieve an undetectable viral load, and that there is NO place to stigmatize anyone living with HIV with any viral load.

  • It is for these reasons that we proudly support the U=U message
